Brian Arte is one of ArtConnect’s Artists to Watch '22
Nature's immense complexity influences Brian Arte's work. Educated as an architect with the dominant influence of art, he is on the quest to explore the relationship between the built world (architecture) and nature. Using advanced computing techniques, he is reaching into the future of what our built world could be, creating artistic compositions combining architectural and natural elements. His interest is the interaction between future living architecture elements, natural habitats and technology. This futuristic creative display of different entanglement forms can give us a glimpse/sense of possible living in a different world where diverse cultural, social and environmental experiences can shape our new human conscience. Viewing these new art creations should provoke us, distance us from today's reality and expose us to a unique new experience.
“Brian Arte's work takes us on an expedition where a viewer and the environment come together, and the two become one living organism. He offers us an alternative and encourages us to envision a world where changing living environments would be a common type of habitat. The world is undergoing constant change, its needs are changing and so are the vision of contemporary architecture and the number of computing systems used in the designing process. His work can be also interpreted as a reminder that the design process is becoming a constant dialogue between humans and technology and new mutating forms of human habitation are expected.”
ArtConnect asked the winning artists to share with us a glimpse into their creative life to get a sense of their personal inspiration and artistic process.
How did you get started as an artist?
At a very early age, I was fascinated by photography. Through the process of additional knowledge development, I discovered the artistic dimensions of making photos. This sense of artistic expression was further cultivated through making drawings, paintings and finally digital visual art.
How would you describe your artistic approach?
I am a researcher and explorer of physical objects, emotions, memory and concepts in the world of architecture. Fascinated by the vastness of reality, both objective and subjective I am using digital tools to create art that can reveal a hidden meaning, one from a multiverse of art meanings. I am mesmerized by the complexity of relationships and our capacity to try to create order in comprehending reality.
And how about what inspires you?
Nature in its complexity against the fluid world of architecture and humans mystery in their titan's curiosity to understand everything.
What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an artist?
The most significant internal challenge is understanding myself and seeing a clear direction for art creation. External, the biggest challenge is to reach people who would appreciate and challenge my work.
Describe a typical day in the studio/wherever you make your work.
The typical day will start with making a good cup of coffee and then reviewing previous artwork, searching for areas of artistic improvement. When I locate design of interest, I create alternatives until I feel they are right. I make brake, take a walk, have lunch, and come back to assess the improved option with a fresh eye. If I am not convinced about the result, I repeat the process.
Is there a medium, a process, or a technique that you haven't used in your work yet but would like to try out?
Digital technique is a fast improving medium and can challenge users and force them to stay updated constantly. I am looking for the opportunity to use the DALL-E2 AI system in the artistic process. The future use of artificial intelligence art creation is exciting and I am looking to use this superb and exciting tool in a new creative way.
What are you currently working on? Or an upcoming project you want to mention?
My current focus is to examine the different future directions of architecture development and explore its artistic potential in various environment settings. The current project is to explore water as a medium and its impact on architecture above and below the surface.
How does it feel to be selected as an ArtConnect Artist to Watch?
I am honoured that I am part of the selection. I am excited about this as a confirmation that I am taking art in the right direction and that you appreciate my work.
Anything else you want to add?
Thanks!
